my [other] place on the net

first off, this site is a massive wip.

i'm a full-time student and i also work, both part-time and freelance.

i also run another site, which is my main focus. this is kind of just my place to chill and blog without having to worry about my professional life or the bozos that i wish would stop looking into my personal life.

if i personally showed you this site, you're free to be here, but if you're one of those dipshits that likes to follow me around and dig through all my stuff without asking, kindly fuck off please.

8.17-8.19

hanging out and the best garage sale ever?

8.17 nothing better than just deciding to up and hangout on a weekday. i had to finish up some stuff for work but my best friend andrew came over and then we got on the bus to go to the record/video store. i was looking for some stuff on my wishlist, namely the bravery, becoming x, graduation and methods of mayhem (didn't find any of those lol :P) but instead found beautiful garbage (the album... lol). andrew and i unsuccessfully looked for the shining and heavy metal on VHS, but did find the matrix, mrs. doubtfire and gattaca (andrew told me that ryan dorin was in it and i had to get it...) for me and joe vs the volcano, good morning vietnam and something else that i can't remember for andrew.

we rode the bus back and were kinda hungry, so we went to this low-cal spot by my place and shared karaage and bento stuff cause it was happy hour. i also got a lychee gin and tonic, still not used to the cough syrupy taste of some alcohol lol. somehow we ended up talking about rango, and somehow he's never seen it. so we went back to my place and watched rango while playing pokemon crystal. before he left i showed him some more of my aberrant mixtape/music taste and we gawked at the itunes visualizer.

picture's from the first time i went

8.19 not as exciting of a day as a whole but still pretty sweet. i got myself on the bus to my parent's and my dad picked me up at the bus stop by their house. on the short ride there i saw a garage sale sign... why not right? i mean i never find anything cool at garage sales really but it's worth a look (IT WAS.). it was the end of the day for the sale but i found a domo plush, gameboy light, and *two* 13-inch Trinitrons. FOR $1 EACH. i guess all my abysmal garage sale luck had led up to this. :D

after i dropped my stuff off i dropped by the local vintage store that i try to hit up every time i'm over. the owner of my favorite stall was working the register and i heard her talking about needing a cool character design illustration... BINGO! told her i'm her guy and she's gonna hit me up. after that i walked across the road to the card shop and by another act of god i came in on just the right day because the owner had just got in a huge batch of gen 1-3 stuff- i'm talking a $1k near mint shiny celebi. so super cool and i met another guy that loves that stuff.

4.29

march 29. the house party

it was a friday, but i totally forgot it was friday. felt like saturday. the sun was out for the first time in what felt like 2 months, so instead of remembering to do work i tried out this donut place for the first time and worked on my laptop outside. i guess if anything urgent came up for work i woulda seen it. actually started fucking doing my animation homework... i keep forgetting to do that.

the other reason that work kinda slipped my mind was that i was supposed to go on an agency field trip that day, but i guess sitting at a donut shop in the sun instead of figuring out transferring bus lines to get to the place sounded better to me. either way i had to get back to my place by 3 to get ready for this party. i was actually really looking forward to it because my friend sounded really enthusiastic about me coming, which i'm not used to. i don't get invited to stuff that often and when i do i don't get the "i'd really love it if you came!" treatment- it actually caught me a bit off guard, in a good way.

i got picked up later than i expected (i try not to ride with strangers anymore, but at least my friend was in the car too, lol) and we went to this vegan area in a place i'd never been to. i knew some of the people from classes, but a pleasant surprise was my favorite instructor from uni being there. i guess she's so cool that she gets invited to this kind of thing with ex-students. i ended up getting a girly drink and vegan mac and cheese (it was alright). i made friends with the couple that was sitting next to me too.

afterwards we headed to my friends boyfriend's house (who i already knew because of uni) and apparently his roommates had already initiated a frat party of sorts. the cacophany of drunk finance majors already had me wincing (entirely expecting to get called a fag), but i was there for the people i knew and wasn't going to pass up free beer and cake. pretty much instantly me and my ex-instructor were cracking beers and talking about design shit. she actually seemed really interested in my interest in camcorders, video games and animation, which most people (especially instructor types) usually brush off. in fact, something that really got to me was when she said that i really stood out to her because of my persistence and she wants me to keep doing what i do. no one ever says that. we went between talking about that stuff and my friend's shitty experiences with the uni. we had a really nice pandan cake for her birthday. at the end me, my friend & our ex-instructor were sitting on the couch and both my friend told me that i'm one of the most solid friends they have at uni, and the ex-instructor said some really nice words about the both of us.

it was a really nice night of unexpected appreciation.
